Good morning, everyone. I would like to talk about the implementation of National Education Curriculum. It is a very hot issue in Hong Kong. I would like to remind you three points.
First, value education. I ask you to respect one another every day. I am quite disappointed that you are late to the line-up assembly today. It is my obligation to remind you how you should behave and interact with other people. Is this value education? Yes! Is this moral education? Yes! Is this citizenship or civic education? Yes! Is this national education? Of course, yes! Such reminders prepare you to be nationals of China. You may have different opinions on the implementation of National Education Curriculum suggested by the government. But you should not deny value education as it is a part of your education.
Second, critical thinking. We always ask you to polish your critical thinking skills. Critical thinking skills are very important. You make reflection for your actions, in your actions and on your actions constantly. You try to improve yourselves at all time. Many people talk about brain-washing education. But if you can master critical thinking skills, no one can brain wash you!
Third, faith in your school. Never lose faith in your school. My students, what have the teachers been telling you? We conduct a series of activities to remind you the Incident of June 4th in Tiananmen Square in 1989 every year. We talked about Liu Xiaobo at assembly last year. What all the teachers have been giving you is opportunity to make reflections on the policies of the government and historical incidents. The school is open-minded and provides you multiple perspectives in current issues. Therefore I ask you not to lose faith in the teachers, the principal, the school, the office staff and even the janitor staff as we never lose faith in any one of you no matter what you think about the implementation of National Education Curriculum.
My dear students, when you voice out your opinions, make sure that you are rational and display the highest standard of citizenship.
